Concrete Volute Cooling Water Pumps

07/14/2009 3:33 AM

We are in the process of procuring large concrete volute pumps for providing cooling water supply to condenser and Natural draft cooling tower. As the pumps can not be tested at works, what kind of tests are to be specified to ensure pumps follow the performance curves furnished by the vendor and operate at the guaranteed Capacity, head and efficiency?

The pumps in question are expected to operate with sea water.

Please let us know if any additional information is required.

Regards

In the contract for purchase of these pumps, require the vendor to demonstrate pressure/flow characteristics at the site, and retain a percentage of the contract payment until the performance has been demonstrated.

Any vendor that balks at the propspect needs to be walked away from.

This is something to be discussed via the Engineering Buyer's office locally, as it is largely a commercial consideration, and not something for a global engineering forum.

Agreed, presumably the pump supplier gives his requirements for the concrete volute, with tolerances, and need to ensure these are met, but then he should be happy with a site test.
