Several CAD programs have that option. If your cad program doesn't you can do the following.

Expand the drawing to full size, then click the print screen key. Open up Paint (located under accessories) and paste your screen shot that you created when you clicked on the print screen key. Paint allows you to save the image as a .jpg

How about this option:?

Download the FREE AUTOCad Truview:

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=6703438

Open the .DWG and print to a ghost PDF printer?

This is what I was also going mention (I use it for my CAD). It allows you to simply print to a PDF file instead of a printer.

Easy.

If you are using Autocad 2006 or later versions, you can simply use the command "jpgout" in the command line while your .dwg file is open on the screen. You will be asked to select the view or part of it as a window indication. I have made my entire website using this command option.

Please try and inform if you please.

hi mr.simke,

I assume you don't have any CAD program installed, and would just like to:

1) open and view a .dwg file, and,

2) save it as .jpg.

if this is the case, download Brava's FreeDWG Viewer, and install it.

Open your .dwg file with freeDWG Viewer, and save it as .jpg.

HTH!

I am happy to share my favorite little utility, the free Gadwin Printscreen.

Other direct DWG export options noted above will be better for specific DWG translation into a JPG file, but Gadwin is a tiny, efficient screen capture program with many options making it the most flexible free screen-grab I've found.

Also, it works all the time, with any program or no program, to grab any portion of any screen no matter what you are viewing,
saves in your choice of format (default is .bmp, change this to .jpg)
and in your choice of location,
to the clipboard also or not,
grabbing the entire screen (default)
or a portion you select with a rectangle window (my preference),
with or without the cursor,
with preview or just directly to file,
sent via email, or sent directly to a printer,
with your choice of naming convention,

and can autostart with windows, if you so choose.

Try it - you'll like it.

First plott to PDF, if you have the Adobe capability installed as one of the plotter options in AutoCAD. The PDF is an option in the "Plotters" list in "Plot Manager" in AutoCAD. You can also use "995" software the same way, if downloaded and installed in the Plotters list to plott to PDF. The 995 is free but a taste cumbersome, and shows ads all the time, etc. but it does work. The PDF file can be opened and then be saved as a jpeg file. This is the best way. You can also select the drawing objects you want and right click (in model space) and clipboard it into a Word document, using the "Copy" tool. You can then play around with cropping to get rid of the white space and resize it, etc. You can also use the "Insert Object" tool to insert an AutoCAD drawing into a Word document which works with a paper space drawing. I am not sure about other techniques, these are just rough and ready techniques I found out for myself. May or may not work for you , your machines and applications, but I just threw them out there as an option.

I suspect quite a few CAD programs allow for saving as JPG. I use Turbocad and it does. It is .DWG compatible. You can easily get, not so old, versions of Turbocad Deluxe (say v.11-v14) for pretty cheap on-line ($10-$20). Just shop around.

Screen capture will not give as good results. But when I do want to perform screen capture I use Irfanview (no connection to the author I just like it). It is a nice picture editing program.

I don't like screen grabs, I would download DWG TrueView 2010 from Autodesk's website (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=6703438).

From this you can plot the file picking "PublishToWeb JPG" as the plotter. Very simple and much better resolution than using screen grabs.

true. screen grabs lose some detail, and sometimes the more important ones are those that get lost. :(

Regards.

All "Viewers" by MS, or a 3rd party can only display ; good or bad; & can allow print.

In my view & experience with "Viewers" is as it is.

May be some "Viewers" which convert also ????????
