Applying Brakes to a PMDC Motor Electronically

07/26/2009 10:00 AM

we are a mechanical engineering unit. we have recently seen a wire stitcher machine run by a pmdc 5nm motor which rotates only once upon the press of a foot pedal and stops at the proximity switch. this braking is done by a micro controller or an electronic board. can anyone tell us how it is done or is there anyone from india who can do this board for us. regards, s.srinivasan

Look at how a windscreen wiper motor is stopped at exactly the same position each time.....its similar to what you want......a short pulse to get it off the parking spot and it travels till the parking spot comes round again......very simple, old fashioned electrics.....

By the way, you can do the same with AC motors too......
