Top TVs?

07/25/2009 2:37 PM

I remember fondly the RCA Television we watched as a family when I was a kid. I probably started watching TV when I was 5 in Jonesboro Arkansas. That would have been about 1957.

Television is an important part of our lives.

I was caused to wonder what have been the most important, biggest selling television receiver sets in the history of television.

The report of the Marconiphone of 1936 in Britain prompted this wonder.

What now, really is the best television set?

A perfect Television set would be one you could take anywhere in the world, and it would receive television signals from anywhere.

A perfect Television set would also be easy to make from commonly available parts.

How close are we to an international standard for television signals and receivers?

P.S. When I was a kid, TVs were made of wood.

You're describing the iPhone.

GA. You beat me to it.

transcendian, With proliferation of cable and connectivity, TV as in Broadcast and not as in via internet/cable/telephony is rapidly becoming as old school as that RCA made outta wood.

When I was in college I had a "portable" Zenith TV made from steel that took two fraternity brothers to move.

Good that I now know I need an IPhone.

Still it would be of interest to know what old TVs might be of Museum quality.

Now a days you get many types of TVs.LED,Plasma. and old design. Which one you would prefer?. First two are expensive and consume more power. But portable and give better viewing. Many good brands are available like Philps, Sony,L.G etc.

There are several makers of Mobiles that receive DAB(T) broadcasts wherever they are, a friend of mine recently bought one (Nokia?) for €70, it works brilliantly.....

I do not know what the broadcast standard for Terrestial TV is where you live, but for the UK and Euro Market, its DVB(T)....

And in my experience, you usually get somewhere between 30 and 90 channels in most civilized areas.......maybe in the north of Scotland a few less!!!
