What About the Data?

08/05/2009 9:57 AM

After a long day meeting I left the meeting room frustrated and wondering what is next. As an egineer, DATA is an information in the form of facts or figures obtained from direct observations, used as a basis for making decisions or drawing conclusions. Why is that people around the discussion table will keep on asking questions why, how, when, and where is that DATA information coming from hence these people understand very well it is something that has been aquired and adopted by the organsation? All to you the experience and the experts.

It has to be more that just data or empirical information.

The data has to be presented in a understandable way, just having data for the sake of having data is useless.

Problem is that discussing it in a board room is there may be people that cannot interpret the data, You have to prepare yourself to organize the information, and even anticipate some question from the member involved, ie practice.

Initially, why should they depend on figures, numbers, data they do not understand, coming from someone they are not totally familiar with. Do not fight it.

When some of the members questions are answered from you, they will build confidence in you. And the amount of detail will drop. But only after you make the first step in presenting it to their understanding..

Acquired and adopted by - points to accepted standards.

The data they are worried about is the measured values and how it is kept and applied when changes occur.

give them a data sheet and formula how you adjusted to it.
