Primarily only contained and Fire egress stairways are pressurised.

This is done to force smoke & fumes created during a fire away from the emergency exits and allow personnel to escape into better quality air.

It is also done in some building where access to the premisis is via a staircase to keep the outside environment from loading up the internal environment.
