leakage, pilferage, evaporation, temperature change, transfer losses.

None of these are phenominal. It didn't, just "disappear".

how was the "transportation" done? in bulk liquid carriers? if so, the only probable explanation left for the loss or reduction is by theft. this is because evaporation in such vehicles is negligible, and spillage or leakage are faults that cannot be tolerated in such vehicles (they are a hazard. the volumetric difference that can be brought about by temperature differential from source to destination is also negligible.
