What's This Car?

09/12/2009 5:23 AM

Ran into this coupe while passing thru an old neighborhood.

All I can find out is; it is a coupe, it is a Cadillac, it needs restored, and it is sitting in a poor neighborhood.

I have searched various search engines and can find nothing on it.

Any ideas?

The pix were taken by my 9 year old grandson, but not bad in the detail.

Looks like a pre-war LaSalle that somebody started to customize.

This is about a 1943 model, It was the official car of JC Smuts the Prime Minister of SA during the war.

Not quite but close - I would say that car would be about 1940.

It should be a 1938 to 1940 LaSalle

I guessed 1939 vintage from the start, but just couldn't find it.

Thanks for the post.

As close as I can tell, by the location of the headlight pods, it's a 1939 LaSalle. The 1940 LaSalle faired the headlights into the fenders rather than into the hood.

My guess in #2 was spot on - I have seen that grill in my youth but can't remember where.

I also cant remember ever seeing a La Salle over here either.

Another picture.

2 spare wheels? (another hump on the right hand side as well)
