Having problem with 2-way radio

10/16/2009 9:48 PM

We have a company 2-way radio wich is malfunctioning intermittently, the malfuction is that it does't recieving somtimes. That radio works for three years and then it malfuction we check its antena we found wire disconnected from soldered inside the antena so we replaced it. And still malfuntion, the next thing we done is change the cable and problem persist. Then we change the unit itself and it only run good for about a month then it malfunction again. So it has a new antena, new cable and a new unit, everything are brand new and by using parts replaced with the same specification as the old radio was.

Im caling for radio guro could you please help me with this problem ! Thanks

Buy a new one. And get a new battery, too.

Did you use the radio for FIFA 2010 practice?

I had a G7 with similar problems. After I drop it the transmit power output were halved. The shop then tweaked it and had the output higher than it were. This super power lasted until I dropped the thing again.

I think it is dry solder joints or broken tracks but the shop say they can fix it by reprogramming the operating system.

(un)Solid state technology that can loose bits and bytes when dropped???

the radio Im talking about is an ICOm, we use this in a control room at the minesite, it is not battery operated it has its own power supply. I am just thinking if something to do with the signal because I had replaced its basic components such as the radio unit, the cable and the antena. Wondering why problem persisting.

It could be a lot of things operator error like the squelch is set to high, wrong frequency, someone transmitting a carrier on your freq (I have done this to FM radios). If two units fail and the power supply is OK you have a big problem and need a professional Tech to look at it with an FCC license like I have (not Ham). It could be antenna "placement" or dead receiving/transmitting spots (common). When you say intermittent this comes to mind especially UHF.
