Have you investigated / considered ultrasonic welding?

I'd look at one of the cyanoacrylates(super glue) from somebody like Loctite. (not an endorsement; check their web site) Tell them you hope to have a bazillion to do. They are after volume customers. Some of the more durable adhesives require a primer which can be applied prior to bonding.

Ultrasonic welding requires a considerable investment.(And special energy directors that have to be molded into the part). Spin welding would be a better alternative to ultrasonics, but for home projects, keep it simple.

Two part epoxy would work, too, but the new CA's are said to be good in higher moisture environments. This used to be their weakness.

If you have used any mold release in the molding process you'll have to remove that.

For what it's worth, PET-G is polyethylene terephthalate. (Plastic bottles)

Good luck.

Hey Iynlynch this is really not a home project .I have tried locktight super glue with not that much luck. That would be to easy lol.Whats this spin welding?welding the seams to me would be the better way.Would welding make the plastic weaker?again thankx for any info

If you got your super glue from Home Depot, you didn't get the best they have to offer. Never mind, it's your project.

Spin welding is exactly what the name implies. Your parts are round, so you devise a nest for the parts, hold one stationary and spin the other with enough contact pressure to keep them together. The heat of friction (which is the same mechanism of ultrasonic welding) causes the plastic to melt together. Stop the spinning, hold the parts together until the plastic cools and you have a homogeneous part, just like welding metal, sort of.

Clamp one part in a vice, clamp the other part in a drill press and experiment. It's not rocket science.

We could talk about surface prep as a failure mode of super glue, and other adhesives, but spin welding is less sensitive to contaminates.

Give it a try.

Stores sell stuff for the uninformed. They have what Joe six pack can use on Sunday afternoon.

The problem with adhesive bonding is the preparation of the parts to be bonded. Joe doesn't care about careful preparation of the surfaces, so they sell what can work under less than ideal conditions. Surface energies of different materials come into play, too. You are at least bonding like materials.

Hobby shops are the place to go if you want better CA adhesives.

Better yet, Google: adhesive bonding PET-G.

You'll have to register, but look at:

Promoter for Increased Bonding of PET and Polyimide with Epoxy

Look at some adhesive supplier's web sites, too.

We haven't talked about what this does or how much adhesion you need or how to get it. It's wet, is it hot? What fluids is it exposed to? What's the life of the part? What forces act to cause the bond to fail? Are the parts already molded? Can you change the design?

Are you bonding the parts, "as molded"? How do you prep the parts, if you do?

Try polyethhylene glycol and put small pieces of plastic that you need to glue together, disolve and you will get mutch stronger material then plastic self. be carefull which color you use and consider to check how poisonous it is. it is violatile.

Good luck

GA,

I was about to suggest the PVC transparent Glue and your post had covered the entire options.

It is recommended to try out sample gluing trials, test and proceed for bulk.

Hi s.udhaya,

Cheers my friend!

It would have been a lot easier to know what to search for if the picture had been there at the start of the thread, but it was not. That meant I had to try and cover all the clear strong glues and hope things work after a few tries!

I have pretty much only glued grey pvc pipe and though the glue works brilliantly, I am not sure what colour it dries to?

Good luck and happy Xmas, not sure if you 'do' Xmas, and I am certainly not 'pushing' it in any way, just a kind wish!

PS. Just tell me one thing, are you happy with the shortening of your name and is it correct?

Good luck

Babybear,

Thank you so much for the Xmas Greetings and reciprocate the same inclusive of NEW YER 2010 greetings. I normally enjoy others celebrating festivals. To me festivals are meant as a deliberate occasion to meet our beloveds and please mainly the kids.

You may nickname me as Udhaya and I Don't know if I can change my original name entry here.

*Coming to the technical session- the PVC transparent glue is solvent based system which dissolves surface PVC and glues by fast drying. It may work for polyester-G as transparent, just as quick fix adhesive. The problem is if the adhesion is fast future dismantling of the assembly may become difficult or damage. The suggestions are based on the o.p's choice as use of adhesives for linking the polymer made components.

It seems the OP is concerned about leakage and needs visual transparency of fluid flow through the system.

*On such grounds he can use two side sticking transparent cello tape on the joint face part of inner insert piece and insert directly the outer piece like inserting PVC pipes to joint pieces.

* Or go for insert fix as is done for plastic Kerosene pumps.

* The other option is to insert tight both pieces and outer wrap fix with transparent cello tape.

The specific purpose is unknown, which we have to assume sometimes.

Very thin layer of polyurethane adhesive should also work ,since I had used it for gluing polyester screen fabrics on printing screen frames[metal].

The dismantling will also be easy, just by soaking in solvents like ethyl or methyl acetates, acetone or MEK.

Hi s.udaya,

I think you will have to start a new account if you use a completely different name. It really is up to the admin to decide. They may think if there is no other person with a name close to your spelling that they may allow a space between the first and second name? Try asking.

Good luck.

Hi mr.Rob,

How many of these do you have to assemble? And does the tip you are gluing on have a section of tube on it, and can this tube be attached after the tip is glued or not?

Hi mr.Rob,

What size are these things? And how do you glue them now? What do you do when you are ready to glue a load of these together?

What are they? Do you have to fill them with a liquid like ink?

Hi mr.Rob,

I hope you do indeed find a solution! I run a whole lot of outworkers for over ten years, and I would never ask them to do something I was not able to show them as an example. What problems were you getting? Was it a case of 'floats' not floating?

Good luck

Mr.Rob,

As per post 14 you are supposed to take sample gluing trials based on recommendations.

For this you will be required to sacrifice some test pieces for gluing and testing trials.

You may select some defective pieces of the lot and proceed, which is very simple.

If I am in your place I will start with the polyurethane glue, test-PVC glue trial, test-cell taping trial and even thin polythene wrappings to avoid leakage.

There are other valuable suggestions in the thread, which you may take up based on availability at your area.

Just jump into the sea and swim yourself.

An effective glue, proper setting time and preferably a thin layer to enhance transparency.

Best wishes.

Hi udhay,

I agree with all you say!

Perhaps a this polythene wrap heat shrunk to the float, (or in this case 'sink'!) sorry but I had to say that. With the wrap being a blue or luminous colour which would hide any glue defects perhaps?

God luck.
