Switches or Relays?

12/01/2009 12:04 AM

Hey gurus,

I'm looking for an electronic signal switch/relay. Something that i can have an input at 9.6V max at 2200mA max, then send a signal to open or close a switch allowing the output to be the same as the input. Something like a momentary switch i guess, i'm not entirely sure

Product ideas, companies, or building something from scratch.

thanks

How about a 6V relay fed from the 9.6V source via some suitable voltage reduction device?

Take a wall transformer that converts your a/c wall current to low voltage d/c and make a simple electromagnet to either pick up or drop a metal "switch" across both contacts in a circuit between your device, and its power source. you could control the power to the electromagnet either from a wall switch to your plug, or a switch on the low power side.If the power is too high and burns up your switch contacts, use a solenoid switch to handel the load.A regular starter solenoid will work on less than 12 volts, and 6 volt ones are still available as well.Be a little more specific, i can create any kind of simple switces, etc.

Try looking up Kele, they supply a large amount of control products.

U just need some simple cct.U nd a miniature switch of about 5A,25-30w,a 5-10A,9-12V dc relay wt NO and NC contacts.

Build yr cct to energise d relay so that d normally open contacts close while d normally close contacts open when u operate start/stop of switch.Input to relay contacts will be 9.6v and output will also be 9.6v,as long as u hv yr supply for 9.6v.But if u dont hv 9.6v supply, use adaptor or step down xformer.

It sounds like you're looking for a solid state relay, such as this one from Omron. It will operate at anything over 4VDC, but will handle up to 32VDC input without damage.

Here's an example of how it would work. When the 9V is applied, the relay will close it's contact, providing the same 9V to the load. When the 9V is removed, the load is deenergized, and the relay opens it's contact to prepare for the next cycle.

The contact does not have to use the same voltage source as the relay coil. This particular model will carry up to 3A at 250VAC, so it's pretty sturdy. The description of your intended use is pretty vague, so it's hard to give you a better answer. If you can provide more info, we can narrow down a design.

If you'd rather build it yourself, there are many triac-based designs on the web to do what you want.

Have you ever try the SSR or solid state relay. It operate between 5Vdc to 12Vdc if I am not mistaken.

Sorry for not responding sooner. And thank you to all who have replied with ideas. The application is in a small control switch design.

I'm replacing how a physical trigger on an electric AEG airsoft gun to control the fire remotely/wirelessly. So I'm trying find something i can send a signal to which in turn would allow the power to flow in essence closing the switch then remove signal opening the switch or viceversa

I'm trying to avoid using a actual driver, just trying to find or build a scratch switch of sorts or relay.
