How to Check Seismic Vibration Sensors

12/14/2009 7:36 AM

Hi,

I wonder if there is a device for checking the characteristics of seismic vibration sensors just like Tk-3 of Bently Nevada is used for checking that of eddy current transducers. There must be a device for that but I do not know if there is.

I actually want to know how is vibration created for this kind of sensors to be checked. (Simulation)

Any external link to this kind of device information will be helpful.

Thank you very much.

Ok,

This is just one of many options for checking accels or seismic sensors. If you google portable shaker table, or accelerometer calibrator you will get others.

Hi,

if you want a cheap solution: get a big loudspeaker (-including servo amplifyer and sine or noise or pulse- generator-) and mount your transducer (with only minor mass added) in the center. All this is available for a few $ from the car's audio freaks.

Put below a high grade accelerometer to compare the response of your test item with the known good one.

I prefer the Q-Flex (Honeywell-Sundstrand) as it is among highest quality and easily calibrated by turning upside down as it has 0 to 2 KHz bandwidth.

If the 2 KHz is not enough, then add an additional piezoelectric accelerometer.
