Fire System Calculations for Commercial Buildings

How the calculation for ratings of fire pumps(sprinkler,jockey,main ) were done for a commercial building...any links for study materials.

What are the deciding factors for the same ???

Check the local fire codes or ask the local Fire Marshall/inspector. It depends on the the size of the building, it's use, the type of construction (noncombustible material, wood frame, etc.) and several other factors.

It is not something to be guessed at.

the respective code will describe the types of installation that is hydrant or extinguisher but always the write up if available can be help full. Please help if any body can give us a write up on the following things:-

1.types of fire hydrant

2. Hydrant calculation (like pipe dia, flow diagram,valve details),pump rating calculation

3. Water storage area calculation

I hope that you are not designing the system.

Leave it to the experts...........otherwise you may have something on your conscience that you didn't really want.............e.g. several or maybe hundreds of deaths!!!!

Based on the building construction, it's use and the contents a density in GPM/sq ft will be determined, sometimes this can be supplied by the underwriter, such as Factory Mutual or from the NFPA Codes. The second parameter to determine is the design Area to be used, this would be a typical area that will have the sprinkler heads activated when there is a fire. This also can come from NFPA or the underwriters.

This will give you the required GPM, then you have to do a flow test to determine what you can deliver to the sprinkler system. If there isn't enough pressure or capacity or both will determine if you need a Tank, Tank up in the Air, Tank with Fire Pump, etc.
