One of the things that separate good engineers from people who want things given to them is the ability to recognize a problem and come up with a solution to the problem without asking strangers to think for them.

You've identified the problem, now propose some solutions to the problem that might make the noise go away.

Quit asking people to do your work for you.

Is it a mechanical sound? What could it be making a mechanical sound on or near the CPU cooler?

<hmmm>

Even thou you are doing a BE, basic mechanical engineering is taught and is necessary in the real world.

I will give you a hint, it is likely not an electrical fault inside the processor. Perhaps the source of the mechanical vibration is due to something attached to the processor.........

Ravi -- These little chip cooling fans in computers have plain bearings that are lubricated internally. If the clearances in those bearings are a bit on the loose side they can go into noisy oscillation if the lubricant present in the bearing is not able to fill due to high viscosity or more likely inadequate supply. This oscillation absorbs energy and thus slows the fan down allowing the chip to overheat which in turn sends the system into some kind of fault.

I have an older computer with a video card whose processor cooling fan does this after it warms up. I can stop it temporarily by touching the hub of the little fan rotor, moving it in it's clearances and temporarily pushing oil into the clearances. When this got to be more trouble than it was worth I knew I needed a better fix. When I found out that neither the fan nor the video card could be replaced by anything on the market I decided to reduplicate the little fan. That worked but is something I have to do every few months.

Here's how I did it: I removed the video card and with it on my workbench was able to get at the tiny phillips head screws holding it to the heat sink. I laid the little fan down with the fan hub against the table top and discovered a round sticker on up side that I could carefully loosen with an Xacto knife and lift off with tweezers. Inside the impeller shaft and bearing was visible. I placed a drop of Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic oil in the bearing cavity and replaces the sticker being careful not to get any oil on the adhesive surface of the sticker. I reassembled the fan, video card and "Voila"!! months of new-found quiet.

This may be your answer if it is possible to dismantle the fan. However this is not always the case with these fans. If you have to replace the fan for the CPU or jury rig another cooling setup make sure that if the CPU fan has a function of telling the system that it is running that you figure out how to send that signal after you complete the fix. Since most of these small motors can be stopped from rotating and not burn their motors out the answer may be to hook both up and simply tape the impeller of the noisy one to keep it from turning. Or you could build a simple circuit to send a "fan is on" signal to the system.

If you have good hand on PCs try to diagonose the problem by thinking about all the problems there can be and trying one by one.

After all you can do & no trick works come to answer & people will be in a better position to advise.

If you're replacing the fan/heatsink, its a P4 you got. Not P3. A P3 fan/heatsink will not fit.

Intel E5200 is a Wolfdale core / Pentium dual core processor / The stock heatsink fan is easy to install and works perfectly. Come with a three year limited warranty
