Can Chilled Water System be Combined Type?

I mean cenralized and decentralized at once?

in other words, I have a central cooling plant with centravac chillers and condensing radiators, and I need to provide an alternative system where the original system will remain stand by, can I install individual chillers in all (or some) building and connect these chillers to the old system mains so they can contribute in cooling the original system main and supply chilled water to other buildings as well?

If you are thinking for the standby system, why you are not going to the same capacity system in parallel.

well, this is what is being discussed now, but there are some difficulties like the long distance of new plant location which will lead to high cost for piping and pumping power consumption as well as high cost for service tunnels for the new piping and power cables.

Probably, but it depends on the equipment and piping sizes involved, and most likely a few check valves. A P&ID would be useful for evaluating this, or at least a more detailed description.
