Guys,

We have a centrifugal 3 stage compressor air compressor for our plant.sicne few dayz back we started to experience high 3rd stage discharge temp.We got our after cooler bundles changed even though the problem presists. We checked all instrument calibrations.they are update and cross checked again first and second stage discharge temperatures are ok within norm. Can anyone help on this issue..

You might need to contact the supplier, Captain. Which make of compressor is it, anyway?

Hello roto,

You said: If i had to go back to supplier why wud i post it question on this site...

Because they are more familiar with their own equipment than anyone here might be. By not going to them first, you are wasting time.

How old is the compressor? Have there been any changes lately?

Mike

Look at your cooler, it's not working...

While you should definitely contact the manufacturer, have you checked the water pressure drop across the final stage after-cooler? Just changing the cooler does not mean that any restriction outside the cooler has been eliminated.

It can be anything- scale that broke loose from the piping, pieces of leaf that got into the cooling tower (or other materials- including bugs, bird feathers, etc.)

It might be more of a problem with your inter-coolers rather than your after-cooler. Also possible that you're getting some inter-stage leakage from the discharge back to the inlet side. Are you monitoring the inlet temp for each stage? Did you check for fouled inter-stage cooler tubes? You only mentioned only the after-cooler replacement? How clean is your cooling water? Is it a closed or open system, recirculating or once through city water? Is one of the suction modulating valves not operating properly?

Agree. The only way you can increase the 3rd stage discharge temperature is to increase the third stage suction temperature or increase the pressure ratio of the 3rd stage. That's the law.
