Neutral to Earthing Voltage

03/18/2010 8:03 AM

We are getting high neutral to earth voltage at the output of UPS, but corrosponding input having low voltage what action to be taken for that?

None at all, as it is irrelevant.

The voltage between neutral and earth is irrelevant. Earth is a protective conductor.

It is the voltage between neutral and live that is of interest!

Getting the earth & neutral conductors the right way round matters a great deal. If they are incorrect, then all sorts of damage and personal risk may ensue. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician locally.

Is the secondary of the isolation transformer (neutral point) kept floating?

Is it by chance connected to incoming neutral? Through NGR?

Please check the condition of your earth pits connected to your mains, are they alive or dead meaning showing very high resistance.if it shows high resistance than neutral to earth voltage becomes high.

It is my understanding that the resistance to earth needs to be < 25 Ohms for the protective circuitry to work correctly (at least in residential wiring). You might check that reading.

I have had personal experience in which 3 additional ground rods were required to get the reading down to < 25 Ohms.
