Electrically-Actuated Butterfly Valves

03/18/2010 8:25 AM

Hi.

Kindly advise in the operation of butterfly valve - electrically actuated.

Our requirement is to open the valve in 60sec and to close in 600sec. Whether it is possible to set two different timings for open and close of valves. If so, how can this be done?

If the valve were to be pneumatically-operated, the solution would be to install a restriction on the air line to the valve, and a different, smaller, restriction on the exhaust port.

What size is this valve?

Thanks for the reply.

The subject valves are electrically operated. The size of valve is 500mm. This valve is served as a bypass valve . So during the shutdown process the opening has to be done in 60sec and closing in 600sec. This is designed so as to avoid the surge.

What make and type of actuator is on it, and what does the manufactuer's literature have to say on the topic?

Depending on the controller, it should be a simple matter to program different rates of open and close.

For the slower rate, you could put a repeat-cycle relay of say on-time 2 seconds, off-time 18 seconds. Motor speed would remain the same, but overall time can be made as desired.
