Pumps and Compressors

03/29/2010 2:55 AM

Dear Friends,

I want to know the difference between pump and compressor and how we can recognize if this is the pump and compressor after physical look. Can any body explain in detail?

Suggest you should read and refer some photos, no?? If you go to take a shower and you get water then it is a pump, if you get air then it is a compressor. How is that for a physical experience rather than look "how we can recognize if this is the pump and compressor after physical look"

OK. It means compressor is for compressing the air or gases and pump is for creating pressure of fluids. Is it? I am very sorry for the lack of my basic knowledge but asking a question is good than assuming a wrong thing.

OK. It means compressor is for compressing the air or gases and pump is for creating pressure of fluids. Is it? Even a 5th. grade student knows the difference. Listen, if you are serious you get knowledge from CR4. So don't be dummer than a 5th. grader.

There are so many types of pumps (generally for liquids) and compressors (generally for gases) that it would be difficult to give an easy visual description. Moreover, some configurations can do both, such as rotary vane pumps and compressors. You might be able to get an idea by going to the Web sites of various pump and compressor manufacturers and looking at their illustrations. It then becomes a matter of experience.

Dear Friends,

We have been working for installation of Air Conditioners with the panels of our Corrugator machine. A vender calculated the AC with following info; "

He seems to be an engineer in a paper plant. Now would you believe he does not know the difference between a pump & a compressor?

His chillers dosen't have pumps? His corrugator machine does not have pneumatic and a compressor for it? He dosen't know the difference?

I believe he thinks we are Idiots!

Hello,

Yes, I have been working in a Corrugator plant. Currently one of my friends asked that question to me but I could not give him proper answer as i never read about pumps and compressors. So it was better to post that question in this forum.

Once, one of USA engineer told to me "Don't assume any thing, always check/ask and clear yourself".

All the engineers related with this forum are respected for me. I could not suspect them idiot.
