Looking for information/material sources for making polyurethane foam

02/07/2007 3:23 PM

I´m doing voluntary work for some NGO operating in Central America that is assembling a portapholio of low tech, high value added projects for assesment with a view to aid in developing backward local economies. We think flexible PU foam for making bedding and furniture materials is a good candidate project. Could anyone out there point me in the right direction? Bless you all.

You might find a cellulose based foam is more environmentally viable. Urethan comes from oil and the cost will go up.

As time goes by they are getting better and better at cellulose foams.

Google it

PU Foam is bad for body--no ventilation.

Could have been OK in pre-Central Heating days. Maybe still OK as seat cushions in Cars/Buses running on potholed "Roads"

Since no one has answered the question you posted, I'll give it my two cents worth.

The two biggest suppliers of urethane systems I can think of are BASF and Bayer.

Both are worldwide but based in Germany.

These two produce raw materials but also fully formulated systems. There is also a fair amount of work currently being done with using soybean derived polyols and of course, castor oil polyols should you want a partial green product.

I told you----PU is bad for you--and wrong project for you.

If you still must go for "Soft Modernity" and false ideas about 'Comfort' and you want to know about prices--you can get some low ones from

www.penopoliuretan.com/price.htm Pena in Russian=Foam. Pricelist in Roubles

This is a Russian Supplier--will supply also the Isocyanates&Polyols.

Routtand in Europe arethe best for Shoe sole mouldings.

If you want Large stocks-go to China. Search our patron GLOBALSPEC

Friends out there, I´ll take your two-cents worth of cyber wisdom any day. Thanks for the key words: isocyanates, polyols, Bayer, and link to russian PU.
