Peter, sorry, don't know of anything in your neck of the woods. But things are starting to pick up here in Houston if you were so inclined to cross the pond...

What is you specialty and do you have a CV/resume available?

Naw, we don't discriminate on the basis of age, that would be illegal. We don't discriminate on the basis of where you come from either, just look at our president for an example.... He's from Kenya! His wife even said so.

To be brutally honest the voters of the US aren't terribly discriminating at all....

there was a program here recently about the genreal election that coming in may, and the people questioned had not a clue who to vote for, they knew who they didnt like, and so instead of tactical voting to get some more people into the goverment from other parties, to even things up a bit and stop one party from getting a huge majority, their answer is not to vote at all, Then when we get a crap goverment they moan about it.

much the same i suspect in you bit of land over there

thats true, they are just head stones really arnt`t they are the head of a really large machine, bit like over here.

they are not supposed to discriminate here but you cant really blame them, with youngsters they get cheap labour that will not know when they are being taken for a ride.

and if you dont like them you sack them, and because they dont have the experiance they dont complain

Of course one downside to you coming over her to look for gainful employment, you'll need to retrain yourself to drive on the right side of the road....

nope, we are back to the intelligence of the drivers again.

That said I own two Toyotas and anm considering buying a third. This latest thing is merely the Obama administration trying to drag Toyota down because they are too effective at competing with their new subsidiary Government Motors (GM). Even with all the negative publicity, their sales are still increasing. I can just hear Rahm Emmanuel saying to the head of Toyota...

"That's a mighty nice car company you have there... it'd be a shame if something were to happen to it....." while cracking his knuckles menacingly....

i often wonder if the problems Toyota are having are anything to do with where the cars are made.

now Toyota have cars made all over the world, i wonder if the faulty ones come from a specific part of the world?

when reno had all their problems, to be fair to reno it wasn't their fault, it was the suppliers of the parts, because most cars are built from parts from all sorts of manufacturers it only needs on part to fail, and its the final product manufacturer that gets all the blame

Toyota isn't the only auto maker with some troubles... at least they haven't started bursting into flame for no apparent reason (yet):

http://www.insideline.com/tata/nano/another-tata-nano-catches-fire.html

In fact, Peter, the TML Website (Careers) shows 31 openings in varied disciplines open right now. I am not sure that would be a good career move... well, it might be. If a guy can solve some of the nagging problems and improve their products in general, it might be a good opportunity. Dunno.

Re: Any Interesting jobs going

Ford had real problems with that same issue as well. The cruise control would overheat and catch fire, even if the engine was off and parked.

And then there were the issues with the Ford Explorer SUV and Firestone tires. The tires were made by inexperienced supervisors (because the workers were on strike) using outdated raw rubber that they had to add solvent to to make it soft enough to run through the machine, and not wrapping the steel belts with fiber to keep the steel belts from sawing through the rubber as the tire flexed. All this to cut costs and increase throughput due to their long term labor issues.

Meanwhile Ford noticed they had a high CG problem at the last minute after tooling had already been made so they decided to reduce the tire pressure recommendations to 26 psi instead of 35 psi which made the tires run hotter (causing the rubber to degrade) and created more internal friction and chafing between the belts and the rubber. the result? the tires had a real propensity to throw the tread off, the tire coming apart caused the GC of the vehicle to shift unexpectedly and usually caused the vehicle to roll. AND they had known of the issue for YEARS. They had in fact already redesigned the Explorer to lower the CG by the time the recall and the lawsuits hit. It is estimated that about 250 people died and over 3000 were injured as a result.

So massive recalls aren't exactly alien to the auto industry and Toyota is by no means alone in this regard. Hell, Ford makes Toyota look like a piker by comparison.
