Missing DLL

04/20/2010 5:07 PM

Alas, MS got me again with a bad install.

New laptop, good & legal Office 2003, everything works except Outlook.

Message as follows:

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook, MAP132.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version. This could be caused by installing other messaging software. Please reinstall Outlook.

Could Yahoo Messenger be doing this?

How do I get this DLL file?

What's your Operating System (OS)? I've heard there are some issues with Win7.

This one is a Vista Business OS upgraded to XP Professional at the factory or distribution center before I bought it. All was spanking brand new without a lot of the trash software one usually sees.

Hi qaqcpipeman,

Did you install other messaging software? This may include chat software including (dare I say it) Messenger (I always disable this when installing a MS OS).

At the end of the installation of most OS and MS Office software, it will usually take you through a process of gathering updates for the software, either before or after the system has been rebooted. There is a chance that the people who upgraded your system didn't do this. In the case of XP Pro, your automatic updates should take care of this. In the case of Office 2003, you will have to search for any updates (sorry, did it for you)

Have you tried reinstalling Outlook?

Mike

No messaging software was installed, including MS.

I un-installed twice and reinstalled, did 2 repairs over the original install, but no luck.

The whole Office Suite, including Publisher works fine.

Oh well, maybe it will settle down.

My other laptop, (Vista Premium) went haywire after the security patches and what not last week. Only 14 of the 25 installed and the machine slowed down to a crawl.

Glad I was getting this new one together, but I wanted to give the old one to a friend, not worth much in the shape it now is.

I'm hearing rumors that Microsoft Automatic Update is gradually degrading the performance of XP to force people into Vista or W7, and the first thing to go is Outlook. You might want to back up to a Restore Point. (But try to confirm this story first). I turned Automatic Update off a long time ago, and I haven't had those problems.

I'll confirm it. Ever since SP2 nearly destroyed my XP, the performance of Outlook--and XP in general--has gone to hell. I don't permit automatic updates either, but that doesn't seem to stop Microsoft. Every once in a while, it will do an update to further degrade the system.

XP used to be such a sweet, reliable system.

One could argue that it was planned obsolescence or that the OS grew, matured, and just needed more resources. I believe it is primarily a memory resource issue.

I've worked on several systems that initially started with 256MB RAM and XP. Performance was fine until SP2 and SP3 related updates were added, then the systems slowed to a crawl. RAM upgraded to at least 512MB alleviated most of the SP upgrade headaches, but performance was still a little off. RAM upgraded to 1 GB allowed all but one of the machines to run SP3 like they used to run the initial XP install (stable and fast).

The one problem machine would not accept the large SP3 update. I could not find a specific cause or solve the problem (probably a hardware/driver conflict). That box (with RAM upped to 1 GB) is now running fine with all other incremental updates installed.

I feel your pain. I'm also a dissatisfied Vista user at home and at work. Little wonder Mac's posting record profits.

Hi qaqcpipeman,

Just for clarification. Is the missing file map132.dll? or mapi32.dll?

If map132.dll you can try this link http://www.restoreguard.com/p/file-Map132.dll.html?keyword=Map132.dll&gclid=CIistqymmaECFSkYagodTjnoYw

If it is mapi32.dll you can download the file from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?mapi32

Good luck.

Hello Guest,

If you run Norton SystemWorks/WinDoctor on a Windows XP machine, you'll be surprised that Microsoft missed several DLL's with their OS. msvcr80.dll, msvcp80.dll, mscoree.dll...and the list goes on.

And so, I think we need to ask Microsoft why until now this problem has not been addressed.

Regards,

willy

Hi, gone through same waste of time with Microsoft Virus/Vista, Only Excel worked sort of reliable.....Solution uninstall all MS Office 2003 components except Internet explorer (You'll need it for some poorly developed websites).

Download....FREE... Firefox (internet browser), Thunderbird for email and Open Office that has everything your 2003 MS Office has and at a far better performance level. Open office is pretty much midway between MS and Borlands' Word Perfect/Quatro-pro but without all the rubbish in between and used much less ram to run.....

And yes you can save files in MS formats if you have to share them with other MS Slaves.

Sorry Bill Gates, your latest run of products suck big time. And the hijacking of hardware products at factory level is worst practice ever. Come on USA lawyers sort this PIRACY out PLEASE.

Always turn off Microsoft Updates. This causes problems even in vista. If it works why do I need to fix it. Take a page out of the russian hand book.

I turn them off as my old and wise IT friend told me years ago.

But somehow, MS seems to put the service back on every so often.
