Computer Info Note From CR4 Past

05/10/2010 7:17 PM

us-cert@us-cert.gov is a web internet service that provides alerts. Chtank turned us onto it some years ago.

There is a Safari warning out today on it.

If you are in IT, or just online, the notices of internet events and threats is good to know of.

I appreciated the heads up from Chtank, and am just prompted to share the reminder since Safari has been requested for more CR4 support recently.

I assume you are referring to this:

"Apple Safari Vulnerability

added May 10, 2010 at 10:57 am
US-CERT is aware of a vulnerability affecting Apple Safari. By convincing a user to open a specially crafted web page, an attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code. Exploit code for this vulnerability is publicly available.

US-CERT encourages users and administrators to disable JavaScript as detailed in the Securing Your Web Browser document until a fix is provided by the vendor. Additional information regarding this vulnerability can be found in the Vulnerability Notes Database.

US-CERT will provide additional information as it becomes available."

I've been using Firefox for several years now, specifically because CR4 didn't have a toolbar in Safari. Has that changed?

No. I have to go to Firefox to post a picture, or have emoticons. I continue to use Safari since I've not got the hang of gmail, and I can jump easily back and forth between email, and CR4. I also have to use Firefox if I get to filing on my own site these days. I remember when zip code introduction was a big deal. The way Youths turn to Facebook implies lifetime addresses, which may be a two edged sword.

I think Del the Cat is right onto the things, and it is interesting that he and Milo turned to the same headings out to the sea of CR4.

I sort of regressed, since I was supposed to be writing stories or poems about bald headed pilots, or hot red heads.

Far as US-CERT, thanks to DK for the complete message far as Safari is concerned. Overall the service seems to have value, and I am thankful to Chtank, for turning me on to it.

P.S. Cloud storage as Del mentioned is attractive. Most of the computers I've had broke, and I just somehow got another.

So, could this be a direct threat for iPhone users since its main web browser is Safari? Do I need to turn off JavaScript in order to protect it? Thank you for the heads up.
