For images, copy/pasting can be a bit hit-and-miss. The most reliable method (in my experience) is to make sure you have a local copy on e.g. your HDD, in jpg, gif or bmp format, then use the green camera icon - - at the top of the comment editor. Browse for your image, and submit it.

Tables (from e.g. Excel) and blocks of text can usually be copied and pasted directly into a comment - but you may need to preview/re-edit a few times to get them looking right..

For links, use the hyperlink icon - . You can paste in the URL, and type in the text for the link - like this.

Caveats:

These methods do not work for all browsers. OK for IE and Firefox, but I'm not sure which others.

The browser security settings may not allow the comment editor toolbar to appear.

If whatever is pointed to by the URL you've supplied for the hyperlink is removed, the link won't work (obviously). There may also be (political) regional restrictions, depending on the locality of your link and that of the person trying to access it.

Remember also that it's futile to link to something which requires (restricted) membership to access.

One point that didn't get mentioned - there's no mechanism within CR4 for attaching files in the way that you can send attachments with "normal" e-mail.

If you want to send attachments to specific members, you can ask them to pm you (CR4 shorthand for "send you a private message") with their e-mail address. If they are willing, you can then send attachments to them directly.

There is an alternative. You can use something like adrive and include a link to the file stored in adrive...MS Sky Drive also offers on-line storage, but it would appear one needs to be a part of the appropriate network to access "public" files in that domain.

Ooo yeah - you can also make friends with / talk nicely to / cross the palm with silver of someone who can direct you to a Group which allows you to upload files (and others, in the know, to download them).

[NB This post is misplaced - it was inspired by Garthh's post, but is not directed at him.]

You can start your own group, but gotta have a google account to access I think

http://groups.google.com/groups/create?lnk=l

which will allow the posting/sharing of some files, other than pics

Perhaps, like me, you are using a Mac, and if so, that toolbar does not show up on the Mac browser, Safari, though I believe it might if you use Firefox.

Yes - the Toolbar and and most of its functions don't work in Safari. They do in Firefox on a Mac.

And of course the full and partial screen captures mentioned in another post are built-in to the operating system on a Mac (Shift-Command 4, drag a box around the desired area, produces a PNG file on the desktop). The file produced will begin with "Screen Shot..." or "Picture...", depending on the version of operating system.

Click on the camera icon ,

then click on Browse,

and navigate to the file. Double-click on the file icon, then click Submit.

The image will appear wherever your cursor was located at the time you clicked the Camera Icon.

I imported the above images into my CAD program to add the red rounded rectangles, then exported them as JPEGs, and followed the above directions. Although you can rescale the images in the CR4 editor, I used an exact 2:1 scaling in CAD for the camera image, hoping to produce a sharper result.

Hope this helps! Dick

Sparky did a great little tutorial some time ago:-

http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/15743/How-to-insert-Graphics-into-your-Post-to-make-it-more-readable-or-interesting

One really useful tool for posting anything you can get on your screen is this Screen Capture and Print program:-

It is freeware; it is simple to use, and, does exactly what you want it to.

Just do the screen capture; save it as a .jpg on your PC: then use the little green camera to post it.
