Possible Features

05/20/2010 11:33 AM

What features would you like to see here on CR4?

I'll start

I would like the ability to subscribe to a blog or user

as an example the caption this blog

I know there's no money for any of this

but it never hurts to dream

Hello Garthh.

When you say "I would like the ability to subscribe to a blog or user" do you mean "Gee, whiz, that Garthh is such a witty poster I would really like to be alerted whenever he says ANYTHING?" That does sound like a feature I would use. Good suggestion.

The 'Homework Complaint' type of button also has a lot of merit... this has been discussed, and has had a number of good suggestions for operation.

You may not be able to "subscribe" to a specific blog, per say, but you can use RSS feeds for the blogs. While in the blog, scroll down to the bottom of the page and under "Show all Blog Entries in this Blog" there is an orange button that says "RSS." When you click it you can direct it to your RSS Reader (Google Reader, Outlook, etc.).

You can't use RSS feeds for certain blogger or users.

Hmmmm. In no particular order:

  • Something to keep Del's shed fur from getting into my monitor.
  • An "edit post" option for us stubborn non-joining Guests.
  • More fun competition type things. Not that many of these are organized by CR4 proper, but still. I'm thinking along the lines of the "What is This" and the math / logic questions, but anything is welcome.
  • Maybe a "bad answer" button for those respondants who stubbornly insist on posting rude replies. But then it might start to get all thumbs-up-and-down-y 'round here. Nobody wants that.
  • Free coupons! (just not for Kris-Del Enterprises, please)

Oh, I'm sure there's more. Just too tied up to post.

I like the math/logic questions, too. Although I seldom reply, I learn from other people's replies.

A more performant way of copy / paste pictures from Microsoft Word into a reply.

Pictures should not become inreadable or to small.

Re: Possible Features

I would like to be able to extract and archive everything I've ever posted.(pictures and all) and back it up on my home computer.

I'd like to be able to see a list of ALL of my GA's

I'd like to be able to compile a list of favourite posts of my own choosing.

I'd like a combined home page for each member (me) that includes a top level panel of my emails.. and a manager for the daily minder and all the notices, so that I could get them out of my hotmail.

I'd like to be able to submit pdf docs. (scanned by admin of course) so users can download them directly.

I'd like a built in sketch feature. (2d)

I'd like a voting feature in the authoring tools.

I'd like a pop-up eng calculator/spreadsheet on the header(more tools for injinears)

I'd like to be able to search cr4, while authoring, without changing the page, so I can find prior links to posts/threads... (split page?)

I'd like the visible graphic size to increase by 25%, so 8point text becomes legible.

I'd like an equation editor built into the editor.

Chris

So you would want a dedicated browser basically?

would you pay a monthly subscription?

do you have the GS toolbar?

I haven't had it onboard for a couple of years,

I just click on search GS, I am running 2 rows + tabs at the top of my page

I have a Google toolbar but it's not visible/ I moved some of the buttons next to navigation.

part of why things look the way they do here is the need for a custom look, the flash for the ads at the bottom of the page & probably some other reasons not to use one of the off the shelf solutions... which probably didn't have the functionalities needed 5 years ago when the big reworking was done

I would like some better search functionality within CR$, I can find things, but it reminds me of higher math where you almost have to know the answer before you start. on the shipping container thread not long ago I wanted to know how many views there had been. go to the home page, goto see all forum threads & find the page with the date of origin, which today is on page 16 & had 5388 views last count. If I want to do the same for BBT, I go to the address bar & guess which page unless I want to jump 2 pages at a time, pg 143, 17543views, other searchs can be equally hit or miss
