Reducing Voltage

06/03/2010 12:48 PM

In one of my projects the voltage between neutral ang earth is 25volts. What will be the causes? How will I reduce it?

If the neutral was supposed to be grounded, maybe there is a loose or corroded wiring connection somewhere.

is the earth a true earth ie is it connected or is there a high resistance to earth.

also how are you testing it .

neutral in the uk at the main incoming suppy comes from the same point as earth just to add to the confusion

Put an isolation transformer and connect the secondary to earth.

what is the voltage in your other projects??...what is your earth resistance?...what is the insulation test reading this phase and earth?... Do you have any sort of earth fault protection in the system?....Is there any surge arrestor installed in the main board?...

Earth is there as a protective conductor to operate the circuit protective device(s) in the event of a fault.

Power is supplied between phase and neutral.

So why is the neutral-to-earth voltage of any particular interest [rhetorical question]? It merely indicates that there are other unbalanced loads elsewhere on the distribution system! <sigh>

Let it be so? Why do you bother? In what way it affects your load?
