Panel Assembly

06/09/2010 10:30 AM

I was asked by my client to assemble a 200A distribution panel, which will consist of 20A MCB to be control by an external switch.

I want to know is there any control switch that can operate 20A MCB without opening the panel to put on or off the MCB?

Did you mean "which will consist of a 200A MCB" instead of a "20A MCB"?

Assuming that you meant "200A MCB", then yes, using a larger tub, you can install a 200A, 3 pole contactor after the over current protection device ( the 200A MCB) which will serve the same purpose controlling the MCB.

If you did in fact mean a "20A MCB" you will have to provide more detail. I am not aware of a 20A MCB being installed in a 200A panel?????????

Depending on exactly what needs to be done, a shunt-trip circuit breaker or motorized-operator circuit breaker could be what you asre looking for.

Typos and acronyms, never a good mixture...

If you are truly referring to a 20A MCB (Mini Circuit Breaker), then yes, the Merlin Gerin line of MCBs has a through-door lockable operator handle accessory.

If you were referring to 200A MCB (as in Main Circuit Breaker) then every brand I am aware of has external operating mechanisms available as options.

If it is MCB, then Switching OFF without opening the door is very much possible with a shunt release fitted on to the MCB and controlling the supply to the shunt release with any external switching device. But, I very much doubt if remote ON facility is commercially available for MCBs.

In case of MCCBs, yes! both Remote ON & Remote OFF are possible with Motorised Operators & Shunt Releases.
