PlugPass Electrical Services, PAT Testing, Electician

06/13/2010 6:02 AM

Hi There I am a new member so I'm hoping some one can help me.

have built a panel for a rotory pea drum that runs on hydraulics the motor runs the tank pump the motor is 10hp 7.5kw have put it on a single contactor with a 13amp to 19.5 amp overload the breaker is 25amp 3pole. Now getting to the point, the motor is wired up in star

as soon as it starts it stalls after 2 seconds tried in delta but because of the start load it trips breaker.

HELP.

install a valve at delivery side. before start the motor close the valve 90% then start the motor when motor reached its rpm i.e., motor connection shifted to delta slowly open the valve.

Thanks Folks for your replys to my email found that the motor was stalling because who ever put the motor in the pump had accidently

knocked the internal pump so it was sitting on the base of the tank and giving the motor a lot of work to start. Refitted new motor and pump and all is well

Thanks all kindly Peter T

Is the "Tank pump" motor the source (prime mover) for the hydraulics?

By "single contactor" do you mean a DOL (direct on line) method of control?

What is the stator connection (star or delta) for this motor at design voltage?

Is the breaker motor rated (thermal-magnetic, inverse time delay) to withstand inrush current?

Is the power supply sufficient to tolerate inrush current?

Did you include a bypass valve in your hydraulic circuit design? The pump pressure will stall the motor until the drum reaches speed without one.

do the megggering for the Motor, cable, etc..... before starting... check the starting current in each phase, if they are all in phase then you have to increase the changeover time for star-delta starter and check........

What is the supply voltage?
