Seeking Motorized Paint Spinner

06/19/2010 7:23 AM

Hi, does anybody know where and what i have to buy to make a paint spinner? the look im looking for is a metal square shape holder/drum/thingy that has an opening at the top and about 50cm deep is a platform that holds paper which spins to create different splash designs. Motorized spinner with on and off switch. using the 50cm drop inside as a splash guard. or simply do you know where i can buy one from? How do i get the image of it on here?

Why didn't you say that in the first place.

What else haven't you told us?

Never mind, go fish.

I'm really getting more amazed at the laziness of people posting here. Does the OP expect us to deliver fabrication diagrams that match their unstated skill set. Does the OP expect us to do the web surfing for them and pay for a prefabricated kit to be delivered to their home.

This is the kind of a project that any tinkerer worth their salt should be able to recycle found resources into a working spinner. One could use salvaged appliance motors or even just bicycle gearing to spin paper. Now if 95% of this project gets built and some missing critical part or unexpected scenario happens (Stopping the paper causes the pattern to smear) then I can see posting a question here. But we won't do their work for them.

It's bored, not bord. Further, to be correct, there needs to be a space between the comma after "bord" and aye. Also, English sentences start with the first letter of the first word being capitalized. Additionally, the first-person singular pronoun needs to be capitalized, no matter where it appears.

Yeah, I guess I am "bord", there being an underabundance of interesting posts and an overabundance of posters who just want someone else to do the work. I guess it's better than nothing, though.

I do appreciate the defense Mikerho, but you shouldn't get upset. What did you expect from somebody that needs help spinning paper. It does not surprise me in the least that somebody who cannot figure out how to tinker up something that spins a single sheet of paper, and yet some how has internet access (maybe through a loaned computer or smart phone but certainly both of these technologies exceed their capabilities), and who takes criticism so badly that they resort to an Ad hominem attack; knows nothing of English syntax structure.

Then there was the group of students who turned an ordinary lettuce spinner into a blood centrifuge for use in places where there's no electricity.

You suggestion of bike gears brought the salad spinner to mind.

I'll mark this OT.

Point taken by me from OP in their post to me, also.

well, i did state metal... your picture looks like plastic to me... reason for not stating "it in the first place" is because i only just found a safer one on that site, rather than the ones people are making on you tube..

Wait.......I'm still dizzy.....Ok, uh, what about a modified record player (turntable)?

You did say you wanted to make one?

You could also climb inside a commercial clothes dryer with some cans of paint, (just make sure to use the cool mode).

Dish washers washers dryers, food processors have variable speeds already.

Common 5o Hz motor speeds are, in RPM:

50

1)

As a youth, I experimented with a vacuum cleaner motor (unloaded speed 15000 rpm).

I found that a length of rubber tubing would act as a "bushing" to allow a 78 RPM (Am I dating myself?) phonograph record to be affixed to the motor shaft.

The assembly went through various stages of acceleration from initial torque reaction to the full gyroscopic effect.

Fortunately, the axis of rotation was away from my face when the record succumbed to centrifugal force and disintegrated, leaving pie shaped pieces embedded in the drywall.

My dad was all "What the.....". He always came home from work with a certain amount of trepidation.

I will not say what I did with my "coffee can centrifuge" but I will state that small insects would avoid my location.

For a DIY project, consider a variable speed blender motor. Fast speeds will spin out a thin film; slower speeds could give impasto texture.

Why would the surround need to be 50 cm (almost 20 inches) high?

Spin Art USA sells single units on line for US$ 269, if you wish to avoid tinkering.

Ever thought of ordering it from eBay? I'm sure there must be a retailer there who would sell to Australia. You can also order it from Amazon.com. Unless it's banned in Australia, there's no reason why they won't sell it to you.

Is it possible that anything considered even remotely "Psychedelic" is banned in Australia?
