Responding to blogs

07/09/2010 4:41 PM

I'm a bit confused. When you view a blog, there is an opportunity to post a reply. In the past, I have posted a reply, but never got any response. I also see that there are never any great amounts of replies to a blog as compared to a question or discussion. The latest blog on straightness of barstock, left some unanswered questions which I tried to address by submitting the blog as a question. What is the correct way of handling blogs?

There is a reply button in the lower right hand corner ronseto, just like on regular posts. Doorman has managed to put a comment up on the Bar straightness entry in today's blog for speaking of precision, we'll be happy to take your question too!

No problem, I also think that blogs are more intended to be a running commentary, so it's possible you won't receive a reply. Don't feel bad, not too long ago, I had no idea what the word blog meant. There are other things, like texting, that I can't understand why it's so popular, will never attempt it or be interested in it.

I think you're doing it right, it's just that the people that start blogs aren't necessarily looking for a specific answer, therefore, they don't check in as often. Your posts will probably be responded to, but maybe not right away. You know what chaps my hide? Responding to someones question and trying to help out, and then they just disappear, leaving us to never know if our answer helped. No, thank you, no nothing. It doesn't seem to happen with the regulars on here, but it happens often enough.

A majority of the blogs are just filler for the Newsletters

Gotta have that question in the bottom right corner

Milo's blog being one of the exceptions

Correction - many of the blogs contain content from the GlobalSpec e-newsletters. Other blogs are written by internal GlobalSpec employees. Some are written by people outside the company, like Milo's blog.

To answer the original question:

You can reply to a blog by clicking the "Reply" button, just as you would in any thread on the site. (You can reply to a comment within a blog by clicking "Reply" on that comment.)

If you want to drastically change the course of discussion on a blog, it's best to start a new Discussion or Question thread.

A correction indicates some incorrect information

Most or many, no clarification on the relative amounts of content provided by the different sources of the blogs that appear on the daily digest.
