Mercedes C240 2001 engine start failure

08/07/2010 8:20 AM

My Mercedes C240 has no problem to start the engine the first time. then i drive in 90 F ambient temperature for 5-15 min., park it for 10 min. and when I want to restart the engine it doesn't start! the display indicate " Check Engine". after waiting for 15-20 min. the engine starts with no problem! the display "Check Engine" is gone.

what is the root cause of this behavior? are there any sensors malfunctioning? if so, which one and where are they located.

Try borrowing a code reader and read the codes while it is malfunctioning. Odds are it's a heat related problem and reading the codes will narrow it down considerably.

You posted this same thread in another forum. Shouldn't do that.

Its considered as being really bad manners on CR4.

It will also reduce the number of interested posters once they see that!!! So you don't get as much help.....

What would you personally consider to be the maximum number of blogs all asking the same question, all from the same person should be? 2, 10 or 100 or what?

Try having your battery load tested. You may just have a week battery. Good luck.

It's old enough that I would have the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft

position sensor checked for being worn, dirty, and or loose. Then have the repair

done. I wonder how I know...hmmmm.

Ken.

Check the engine.

No the sensors are not malfunctioning but by ignoring them you are.

If it is a diesel CDI most probably the high presure pump is leaking. Make it revised and repaired, if necessary.

This problem is common in series CDO (diesel)

Good luck,

Arturo
