Day Tank for Diesel Generator

08/19/2010 7:16 AM

Dear All, I have a question for the location of Diesel generator's Day Tank.

Is it allowed to install Day tank underground?

The Diesel Generator is installed at Ground level.

If the day tank location is lower than Generator's, the additional oil feeding system is required.

Thanks

Why can't the tank be above ground?

Do you mean day tank or main tank. A day tank is meant to go between a main tank and the genset because of the limited capabilities of the engine transfer pump.

Dear Guest,

The Day tank is supposed to take care of the fuel requirement ( Diesel) for a period of minimum 8 hours + 2 hours (in case of not filling or topping up at the end of the shift). It will be intermediate one as pointed out by one of the readers. Generally it is kept within the visible range to note the fuel level easily.

( I feel the same tank can be used at night also !!- It is only the lighter part of the answer & no need to have a Night tank !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ).
