Carbon Emissions

08/23/2010 9:39 AM

Does anybody know where I can download a carbon emissions data chart, one that will show what the carbon emissions equivalent of 1 kWhr of electricity for various types of fuel i.e. 1 kWhr of electricity is equivalent to how many kilograms of CO2 if you burn coal or natural gas?

Thanks guys.

It really depends on what engine/motor you use for the power source.

An under powered (too small) engine will put out a lot more carbon emissions than an over powered (too big) engine.

I believe that John Deere has put out some charts demonstrating their OEM engines at full load. They are showing emissions for Tier I, Teir II, and Teir III emission control. I will try to find those for you if you would like.

Thanks for your help guys. As for growing plants, I'm actually trying to develop a process to use excess plant biomass to generate electricity so the carbon emissions chart will be part of my proposal. After all, energy derived from biomass is both carbon neutral and renewable unlike fossil fuels.

Coal: 0.7 to 0.9 Kg CO2 per KWH. It depends on coal calorific value.

You can also take 600 kg/kWh for open cycle and 400 kg/kWh for combined cycle gas based power plants.

Maybe they could take two or three. We have plenty to spare.
