Setup a communication structure

03/07/2007 5:55 AM

Hi.

I am an Architect, and an absolute laymen in matters of communication, and in dire need of some help concerning the implementation of a communication structure with the following brief:

The objective is to send a 16 digit message, from a source to a receiver that has a LCD screen display. The receiver has but one objective: to display the message received. The source and receiver operate in an urban environment, with variable range issues. The receiver must be small and lightweight and, invariably, the cheapest possible.

I would be most grateful if someone could advise me on this issue, mainly the possible specs for the transmitter source and the receiver.

Best regards,

HDSF

There are lots of choice. you can use microchip like 51 serial to relize this function. it can satisfy with 100m, 500m or 1km transport distance. and why dont you use LED instead of LCD? the front is more high lighting thant last especially on the day. if only smple 16 digitals display you neednt more interface chip, just use several transistor as driver enough. of cause lcd is rather complex drive than led.you'd better us a special chip to drive. three lines, one is ground, one the power supply and one signal line.

With not much information, why not just use a cellphone?

There are a number of ways to do what you want, but one of the most critical missing pieces of information is range. Over what distance do you need to communicate wirelessly?
