Pipe Size Calculation?

09/06/2010 7:46 AM

How to calculate pipe diameter required, if we know the flow rate ?

we can derive a formula from burnulis equation for pipe diameter.

ie; square root of ( 4*flow rate)/3.14*velocity).

can we assume velocity as 1.3m/s?

It's got stuff-all to do with Bernoulli's Equation.

Just keep the velocity in a liquid pipeline between 1 and 3m/s. If the flowrate is known, out drops the diameter.

That's rght, and his formula isn't Bernoulli's Equation anyway.

It's just the formula for velocity = volume flow rate/pipe cross-section area.

Eh? No other formula is needed.

take pipe diameter in mm squared x velocity in meters/s x .0028 = m3/hr

say a 25 mm pipe , velocity 3 m/s = 625 x 3 x .0028 = 5.25 m3/hr
