Does your "system" have multiple conveyor belts or one long belt?

Do you have different run modes such as "surge" and "run" or any other modes?

Are there photo eyes used to control the movement of material on the conveyor?

You need to give us more to work with.

Using a VFD will not save you any energy on a conveyor belt system, unless you are willing to move less product or you are replacing some other method of speed or torque control that is less efficient.

Energy savings can only be accomplished in two ways:

  1. Do less work
  2. Decrease any inefficiencies.

The above (sarcastic) posts are essentially addressing #1 only because you have still not provided any useful information about your load profile or system design. So all we can recommend with so little information is that you will save energy if you turn it off.

If you provide details as to exactly what you are doing and how you are doing it, maybe we can make recommendations that will help with regards to #2. But without that, you are on your own.

One thing would be is to make sure you motors are not over sized......which falls under #2.
