Computer Monitor Display Falters

09/10/2010 12:36 PM

I am facing a peculiar problem in my monitor display. The contents, immaterial of any application, falters / scrolls up and down and won't allow to read or write easily.

I scanned for virus but there was none. Did window disk cleanup and defragmentation, still no use.

Has any one experienced such a nuisance? Any cue to fix this problem?

Are you sure it is the display and not the computer? Sounds like a computer problem to me, not the display subsystem.

I had a similar problem once. My problem stemmed from the scroll wheel on the mouse. I changed the mouse out and the problem went away!

Best of luck!

You and some more doubted the 'mouse'. Changed the mouse and appears to have solved the issue.

When faced this problem, first I thought of asking here and it's well justified that CR4 is a good growing and guiding resourse...

" ... and won't allow to read or write easily ... " - I'm having trouble with this, in the context of a display device.

Ignoring that; have you tried your computer with another monitor?

You could troubleshoot him with a block diagram, if yes then go to.... some logic. Just wonder if he can follow up on that monitor?

Is this a CRT or a Flat screen? This sounds like an old CRT whose vertical sync has failed.

As others have indicated, borrow a different monitor or a different computer to determine whether the problem is in the computer or the monitor, then get back to us...

Also, borrow a mouse with no scroll wheel, or open up your current one and clean out the dust...

What kind of computer are you using? Is it a laptop with a touch-pad or just a desktop with a regular (laser?) mouse?

I have encountered similiar problems several times over my career as a tech. It is almost always mouse related; on most laptops the problem has been the touchpad which you can cheat and disable in the Control Panel. Otherwise, disconnect the mouse as a simple test and then borrow/buy a mouse to complete this line of testing.

Once complete, report back here.

try a different keyboard, it may be a stuck or defective key(s).
