-MACHINE ELEMENTS-

09/29/2010 10:04 AM

How does these looks like??

1.DESIGN A PLATE CAM TO MOVE TO POINT FOLLOWER IN A VERTICAL GUIDE DIRECTLY ABOVE THE CENTER OF ROTATION OF CAM. LOWEST POSITION OF THE FOLLOWER IS TO BE 38mm ABOVE THE AXIS OF ROTATION OF CAM. FOLLOWER IS TO RISE 76mm WITH UNIFORM MOTION DURING THE 120º ROTATION OF THE CAM; TO REST 45º; TO DROP IMMEDIATELY 25mm;REST 45º; DROP 50mmIN 120º WITH SIMPLE HARMONIC MOTION ; REST 30º. CAM IS TO ROTATE CLOCKWISE.

2.A PULLEY 380mm IN DIAMETER AND 114mm WIDE IS KEYED TO A HORIZONTAL 70mm SHAFT WHICH ROTATES AT 200RPM COUNTER CLOCKWISE WHEN VIEWED FROM THE FRONT. A 100mm BELT, 6mm THICK , FROM THIS PULLEY DRIVES A 64mm SHAFT 1016mm TO THE RIGHT AND AT RIGHT ANGLES WITH THE DRIVING SHAFT. THE DRIVEN SHAFT IS TO ROTATE AT 150 RPM WHEN VIEWED FROM THE TOP. a) WHAT IS THE DIAMETER OF THE DRIVEN PULLEY?b)WHAT IS THE BELT SPEED IN METER PER SECOND?c)MAKE A THREE VIEW DRAWING OF THE BELT DRIVE TO ONE FOURTH SCALE INDICATING THE DIRECTION OF ROTATION AND BELT TRAVEL ON EACH VIEW.

3.

  • LAY OUT THE THEORETICAL TOOTH CURVES FOR A 5/8 DIAMETRAL PITCH,12-TOOTH,14½º INVOLUTE GEAR. DRAW IN ONE COMPLETE TOOTH , MAKING THE ADDENDUM 0.3183Pc AND THE DEDENDUM 0.3683Pc, WHERE ''Pc'' EQUALS THE CIRCULAR PITCH. TOOTH THICKNESS EQUALS ½Pc, AND THERE IS TO BE NO BACKLASH. MAKE THE CENTER LINE OF THIS TOOTH VERTICAL. ASSUME THE GEAR TO BE THE DRIVER AND TO ROTATE CLOCKWISE.
  • IN MESH WITH THIS GEAR DRAW 3 TEETH OF A RACK WITH TRUE INVOLUTE TOOTH CURVES.
  • DETERMINE THE CLEARANCE CURVE OF THE GEAR
  • USING A TEMPLATE DRAW IN 3 TEETH ON THE GEAR AND 4 TEETH ON THE RACK
  • INDICATE CLEARLY ON THE DRAWING THE FOLLOWING:

-PATH OF CONTACT, ALSO LENGTH IN INCHES

-ARC OF CONTACT, ALSO LENGTH IN INCHES

-INTERFERENCE IF ANY

-COMPLETE DIMENSIONS

4.LAY OUT A PAIR OF INVOLUTE BEVEL GEARS TO MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

-BROWN AND SHARP STANDARD CUT OUT TEETH;

-ANGLE BETWEEN SHAFTS =75º;

-VELOCITY RATIO =2 TO 1;

-DIAMETRAL PITCH =2;

-PITCH DIAMETER OF THE GEAR =12in;

-LENGTH OF FACE =2 1/8in .

-LAY OUT 3 TEETH ON THE DEVELOPED BACK CONES OF EACH GEAR, AND SHOW SECTIONAL VIEW OF THE GEARS. ASSUME PROPORTIONS FOR BORES, HUBS, WEBS, ETC..., DIMENSION THE GEARS.

It looks like a good test for a student, to be solved by himself.

Same situation in REAL life an assignment is given and you have to help yourself!

It is a good preparation for the career you want to have.
