Does anyone know why ABB ACS 350 Drive Control Panel Displays go blank?

The unit is most likely defective.

What is the rest of the part number, for instance: ACS350-03U-01A2-4?

I had this problem on a recent installation. I called tech support and after running through some diagnostics, the tech stated that the unit was defective and issued an RGA (return goods authorization).

The unit was two weeks old and under warranty.

Have you tried calling tech support?

The Control Panel Display # is ABB OY, ACS-CP-A.

Actually I have 4 of them bad. The Power light comes on and the back light comes on but there is no text or information. Its just blank.

They are all a couple of years old and get moved from place to place for short term projects. Each time I plug them in to a drive they do something different. One time one read backwards as if you were looking at it in a mirror. One had the words enter and exit cut off at the bottom (you could only see the top half of the letters). The next time I plugged it in it was blank again. We use many of these AC Drives where I work and the ones that run continuous have no problem. I will try Tech Support, just thought someone may know about this on CR4.

Thanks for the reply.

We have an ACS 550 and it did the same thing. We got another LCD module on order but by the time we received it, the old one came back on. We left the old one in. For us, I suspect it is a bad connection. While it was off however, it did not affect the operation of the drive.

Thanks, I can't believe they just suddenly go bad. I thought it may be the connection too. It's like a loose Cat 5 connector but the power light and back light work fine. I know that once you set the motor type etc. you can unplug the display and the memory is in the Drive. Just can't do the initial setup.

Thanks for the reply.

Could be a corrupt data connection due to a bad connection.

Have a go cleaning the control board connections and the plugs (both the control board, power board and display), chances are an intermittent or bad connection is all that is wrong. In my experience dirty or poor connections seem to be the weakest link for variable speed drives (as long as they have not been electrically abused).

I agree with jack of all trades. Follow his advice and see if that helps.

Thanks Mikerho and jack of all trades,

That sounds like the only logical solution, however, the contacts look clean and bright. It just seems funny that they all worked and all went bad at once. I also heard from an ABB tech that there is a ribbon cable in the display that is not soldered but thermally connected and if any of the wires break off you get backwards text or missing text.

Maybe they should go back to making them in the States.
