10/12/2010 9:26 PM

My friends,

"XS" stands for position switch in the legend.but I don't know which type of instrument the "XS" is, because XS is in the line. Thank you.

  1. Ask the person that approved the drawing for issue. It might be a typo, in which case that individual might be grateful for its being pointed out.
  2. Look in the Process Description document or the Functional Specification document.

That does look odd; a pressure, temperature, or flow switch would seem more likely. I agree with PW--confer with the drafter if possible.

The symbol looks like a accumulator and would be placed correctly. The XS should be a symbol for gas or spring. Can only guess that its a accumulator with a typo.

I have seen this before and it usually means eXess pressure Switch, normal designation would be PSH (pressure switch high) or PSHH (extra high).

The designation X is usually a drive and S is a switch. Position switches are designated Z as in ZSL or ZT.

XS termed as Position transmitter which are ideal for control valve position indication, mainly used in waste water treatment plant, power industries etc.

In C&I we work to ISO3511 (BS1646), this defines the use of all sysmbols and designations.

In this type of arrangement ,in my opinion the person who designed this, just wanted (intended) to take the torque switch signals of the MOV up to the shared display(High),thats it .Pressure switch may not be required here or may be possible ,process will reveal this or the client . e.g., Excess Torque Open f/b Excess Torque Close f/b
