Switchgear

does not really contain any 'gears'.

It is made up of switch equipment, sometimes called 'gear'.

Depends upon the switchgear.

If it is 5 speed switchgear, then there are 6 gears, 5 forward and 1 reverse. If a 4 speed unit, then 5 gears, 4 forward and 1 reverse.

I am just playing with you...

The term "switchgear" is mean to describe, equipment, or "gear", that "switches" electrical power, hence the term "switchgear". There are no mechanical "gears" in switchgear as per the common understanding of a "gear".
