Lesson # 1

The terms Long Radius and Short Radius refer to Butt-Weld Elbows

Lesson #2

Socket Weld Elbows and Screwed Elbows do not come in Long Radius and Short Radius.

Lesson #3

Go on the Internet and look up a Pipe Fitting Manufacturer (pennUSA or equal) and you will find answers to your question.

For butt-weld ells: short, r = D; long, r = 1.5D; "3R", r = 3D.

Okay lets try this again.

Lesson # 1

The terms "Long Radius" and "Short Radius" ONLY refer to Butt-Weld Elbows

Lesson #2

Socket Weld Elbows and Screwed Elbows do not come in Long Radius and Short Radius.

Lesson #3

Go on the Internet and look up a Pipe Fitting Manufacturer (www.pennUSA.com or equal) and you will find answers to your question.

Lesson #4

I cannot answer your question because you did not give a size for your pipe

Lesson #5

I cannot answer your question because you did not give a "Class" or "rating" for the fittings you are talking about

Lesson #6

I cannot answer your question because Socket Weld 45 degree Fittings do not come in Short Radius.

What part of this do you not understand?

I am confused! What do you mean by "formula for spool measurement"?

Is it possible that you really mean "The minimum distance between the centerline of two 45 degree fittings"?

If that is correct then the minimum distance center to center of two 1 1/2" 45 degree class 3000 Socket-weld Ells is based on the length of the nipple (say 3") plus 2 "F" dimensions (for the 1 1/2" 45's) from "Tornado's" Chart. The nipple can be almost any length as long as you can still make proper fillet welds.

How about this?

http://www.redoxinc.com/s_dimen2.htm

(I'm not sure if this is a universal standard or just one manufacturer's dimsneions.)

I'm back, if you are using socket weld don't forget to calculate slip back in the socket.
