The flange bolts or studs pass through both flanges and the valve lugs--none of these holes are threaded--and engage nuts on one or both ends.

If the valve lugs are tapped, shorter bolts can be used from each side, attaching each flange independently. The advantage of this is that one flange can be removed while leaving the valve attached to the other.

I will add a little to the good information "Toronado" has given.

"Wafer type Check" This type of Check valve can be purchased three different ways:

"No-Lug" - This valve fits totally inside the extra long Stud bolts

"Through Lug" - This valve has through lugs for some or all bolt positions depending on size or type. The Bolts are all extra long Stud Bolts.

"Threaded Lug"- This valve does not use Stud Bolts. This valve uses "Cap Screws", two at each hole position, one installed from each side.

Thanks for the info.

One more question. How is the check valve held in place on the no lug scenario?

By the being compressed between two flanges?
