Dear all,

I need some information on flowmeters particularly axial type ( screw spindle) their characteristics and advantages supposed to be used to measure fuel.

I would do a search on Globalspec for flowmeters and phone a manufacturer and ask for information...

You don't say what information you want so remember to have the question ready when you phone the guys...

John.

There are several types of flow measuring devices, the vane or "paddles wheel" type is one. It does have a good turn-down ratio. However, it measures flow at only one point in the pipe cross-section. The placement of the paddle is critical.

The device I prefer is the averaging pitot. It has a good turn-down ratio, almost as good as the paddle. Annubar Co. makes a pitot that has vortex shedding and averages the flow at four points across the pipe.

Another flow sensor is the venturi tube. It is very accurate, and the turn-down ratio is almost as good as the pitot.

If the fuel flow you are measuring is fairly constant, the orifice plate would be a good option. Otherwise, it doesn't have a good turn-down ratio.

As Electroman suggested, go to Globalspec for manufacturers and detailed informatin.

Recently completed a project for monitoring low fuel flow. The meter chosen was an oval type rather than turbine and I was measuring flows down to 125cc/min in a closed loop control system.

The main places I used for info were http://www.flowmeters.co.uk/ and for complete descriptions of flowmeter applications and advantage / disadvantage http://www.omega.com/

Hope this helps

John

Thank you for your suggestions...

actually the application is for a fuel dispenser unit....so the fuel flow will be faster in the begining and will slow down at the end...my task is to design a flowmeter with axial flow desirably a screw spindle type meter shown below....

i need some general information on these types of meeters like the accuracy repeatability limitations and advantages...

Try www.awcompany.com (ask for Walt Breach) or www.omega.com or www.Flowtechnology.com . Any of these suppliers can answer all of your questions.

Go to Spirax Sarco site/ Forbes Marshall India site and you'll get all the types of flowmeters.
