Go through each one's CV and test them for three questions:

  • Can this individual do the job?
  • Will this individual do the job?
  • Will this individual fit the organisation?

Then hire the best one.

One of the first things I would advise is to show an interest in the company that has offered you the interview. Do some research into what the company does / manufacture and relay your knowledge back to them. They will be impressed that you have taken the time to find out what they are about.

More than likely they will ask questions such as:

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

What will you as a person bring to the company?

etc.

There are some interview techniques and advice sections on the net. Whatever you decide to do, don't pick your nose!!

Good luck

Neil

As you're a fresh graduate engineer most of the technical questions will be form the subjects you have studied. Questions may be form Fluid mechanics,CFD,Structures, Stress analysis, Continuity equation ,Pumps etc. All the Best.

Obviously they will want to know that you can do the technical portion of the job. Of course you have a degree that that goes a long way toward that. What I try to guage in the interview is: Do you know how to put in a full day's work for half a day's pay? That's the reality especially in this economy. I have the time to help you learn how to apply the theory that you've learned to solving practical problems. However, I don't have the time to teach you a work ethic. I think that if you appear technically competent, personable, willing to learn and, WILLING TO WORK you've gone a very long way toward getting that job.

Showing an interest in the company - definitely. Taking the initiative to learn about the company and the position requirements prior to the interview - absolutely.

What kind of company is it? Water distribution? Sewage? Chemical plant? Oil refinery? Gas transmission? Gas distribution?

What kind of pipe do they use? Plastic? Concrete? Clay? Steel?

Then you should know the various flanges and ratings, and especially

P = 2St/D

P = design Pressure of pipe

S = Specified Minimum Yield Strength

t = wall thickness

D = Outside Diameter

If the piping is to be placed in or near populated areas, you may have to multiply the above with FET.

F = a derating factor for how the pipe's longitudinal joint is formed, i.e., spiral, linear, etc.

E = a derating factor for how the pipe's longitudinal seam was joined, i.e., by ERW, etc.

T = a derating factor for the normal operating temperature of the medium, and thus the pipe.
