Mount the camera to observe the area you wish to survail.

Have your girlfriend stand in this area.

Seriously, how, where, why, need to record or not is only some of the questions. As the people before me so playfully mentioned, you point it where you wish to observe. Does it incorporate pan, tilt, and zoom? Do you need 24 hour recording? Do you wish to switch the view from one camera to the next but still maintain recording on all cameras? Will it automatically scan or stay in one place? Will there be split screen images or just one?

Otherwise the directions should have been included in the manual. If not contact the manufacturer.
