Engineering a Theft Proof Sign

11/22/2010 8:39 AM

This quaint Austrian village has been beset with sign robbers.

Can we help them design a sign that can't be removed?

They need to do what was done here for a road in the town in which I live, Iqaluit, Nunavut - the capital of Canada's third territory. There is a road that leads out of town. It is called the "Road to Nowhere" and it literally goes nowhere. It was a make work project that was supposed to go to a proposed project. The road snakes and winds it's way for nearly 10 kilometers across the tundra then just stops at nothing as the other project never materialized. The views along the road, in certain spots are breathtaking and it is a favorite spot of the wife's and mine to get away for a walk and a chat. The road has some really great river vallies for photos also.

The street sign has been stolen many many times. So the town started making and selling reproduction signs in plastic and aluminum and makes them available at the airport store and at the few gift shops in town. Theft of the signs has dropped to nothing.

As far as designing a sign goes, no challenge there... make it our of solid welded steel embedded in concrete and that will discourage many a thief.

Well sure, why not? *LMAO* Can I have the old signs as a trade for services rendered???

Wouldn't it be easier to arrest the Brits that are stealing the "F*cking" signs as they leave the country? Those signs are large enough to hide in one's luggage, so it'd be easy to spot them as they go through a Customs checkpoint (if Austria has them...).

There is a village near Lancaster, Pennsylvania named 'Intercourse'. I don't if their sign get stolen often, or not.

And speaking of odd names, I saw a road near Mars Hill, NC, named 'Ban The Blues'. Robert Johnson could not be reached for comment.

Is Mars Hill anywhere near Climax, NC? I think their signs turn up missing too.

Dildo, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada.

Thanks for signs to know where we are (and what we are thinking regarding the arrow on the sign). GPS & google earth will never replace them.
