If you like the purging sound, try clipping baseball cards to frame so they contact spokes. You'll be the envy of the neighborhood.

You are telling your age sir. I haven't seen that done in at least 30 years. People actually value baseball cards these days.

It is shorter lived, but a baloon used similarly gives a very distinct sound for a couple of minutes.

The baseball cards that I tore up in my spokes back in the 60's would probably be worth a small fortune today.

Want to hear a real sob story? I had the entire Yankees roster from 1958 through 1963 on Tops cards, and my parent threw them in the trash when they moved in 1973. Know what a Mickey Mantle or Yogi Berra fetches from that era?

My Dad had all of the original Superman comics, among others all neatly packed in boxes. While in the Navy in the early 50's his mother decided to clean out the attic. Every one of them got thrown in the trash..............OUCH!!!!!!

The exhaust system purges the engine of burned combustion products. When the "engine " is "running" this purging causes a noise. The noise can be silenced by turning the engine "off" either by rotating the key, or by selecting the off position on the "kill" switch. The "kill" switch does not literally kill the engine or the bike or the rider, so have no fear when employing it to stop the noise.

For many riders in the US, this purging sound is considered desirable. These people are generally described as "idiots", "morons", "posers", "lawyers", or "stock brokers". They dress in leather garments, and modify their motorcycles to make loud purging noises. They emulate the look of Hell's Angels (a motorcycle-based sociopath support group) because they believe that doing so will lift them out of their dreary, boring existences. Were it not for the relief provided by loud noise, at least half of these people would be in jail, having been forced to commit crimes to alleviate boredom.

So... the adv of this noise is that it reduces the societal cost of incarceration. The dis-adv is that it tends to annoy some people, and makes others laugh at you, while shouting "poser" as you tool on by.

By "purging sound" do you mean: UmmmmmmmmBwaaaaaaaaaah or Ringdingdingdingnahnahnah?

or maybe UmmmmmmmmmbwaaaaaaaahPOCKTINGshamablama?

(Any similarity to an objectionable word in an alternate language is unintended)

As a professional dis-advisor I was responding to the OP, however, #6 may support the universal stereotypical standard of gender based purging.

If is worth considering that the OP was referring to oral purging, a process which produces gender-similar (yet subtly different) sounds... vocal chord differences can have an affect on this sound, which can be rich in harmonics and percussive effects.

Although oral purging should be considered, it is the degree of dissatisfaction by the OP's spouse, conveyed in the text, which led me to the perhaps erroneous conclusion that the sound emanated from a non-oral orifice, particularly if seated in a vinyl or leather upholstered chair.

Good observations. Perhaps the purging noise is coming from the OP's spouse, sitting behind the driver? Under such conditions, oral purging by the passenger can be disturbing for the driver, whose clothing is often poorly adapted for receiving and absorbing oral effluent.

why is the first thing most people do when they buy a HD is to cut the pipes off and install megaphones. I dont think the Fonz did this, and he was cool. I like to purge but most of the people in the room dont like it. It just goe's to show you what people will do to be cool. I guess I am just a nerd.
