why should we remove semiconductor at end termination of ht cables?

If you don't, it will conduct to earth, and your termination will fail. Be sure you clean off the semicon well. Most early failures of stress cones are due to poor workmanship and contamination that allows leakage current and flashover.

I guess you mean semiconducting tape material. The term semiconducting material in a ht cable is in fact a conductor, hence should be removed during cable termination or splicing. This semiconducting layer of material is strongly bonded to the insulation in the underlying copper tape shield to equalize the voltage distribution within the cable jacket and also facilitates in the cable termination and splicing of cable ends.
