2005 Hyundai Tucson Alignment Question

12/11/2010 2:12 PM

Should my 4wd 2005 Tucson need a rear end alignment, or am I being misled?

Cars with an independent rear suspension need a four-wheel alignment, simply because the rear tire alignment isn't fixed and can go off course, just as the front tires can fall out of alignment.

Whether you get a four-wheel or front-wheel alignment for a car with a solid rear axle depends on your willingness to spend the money; your mechanic's procedure, as many offer only four-wheel alignments; and if there are suspicions that there might be a problem with the rear axle alignment.

I agree with Mizuti. Have you noticed any unusual tire wear?

Thanks for explaining when/why a rear alignment is necessary. My car does have the ind. suspension, so I guess the guy was being honest.

Car was definitely pulling to the right, so when I had it evaluated, the guy said I needed all four done. After the fact, friends had me wonderig why the rear would need it, but I see an explanation above. Thanks!
